THE GIRL- AND YOUNG FEMINIST DOCUMENTATION INFRASTRUCTURE LEAD

Aluel Atem is a South Sudanese feminist peacebuilder, organizer, and strategic gender advisor with over a decade of experience working across feminist movements, peacebuilding, humanitarian response, and gender justice in conflict-affected contexts. Her work spans grassroots organizing, regional feminist networks, and international peacebuilding, supporting women’s and girls’ leadership, movement building, advocacy, research, and community-led approaches to peace and justice.

She is the co-founder of Ma'Mara Sakit Village and Crown the Woman, two feminist initiatives in South Sudan that create spaces for girls, young women, and grassroots women leaders to organize, build community, tell their stories, and imagine more just futures. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to accompanying girls and young feminists, strengthening feminist movements, and bridging grassroots realities with policy, advocacy, and funding ecosystems.

Aluel serves as Crisis and Humanitarian Advocacy Manager with the Global Resilience Fund at Purposeful. Within Our Collective Practice, she leads the Girl- and Young Feminist Documentation Infrastructure workstream, supporting the shaping of feminist approaches to documentation that strengthen girls' and young feminist organizing.
